Papersurf No.1 Powdersurf
The story of the brand - Papersurf is a company started in 2023 making snowsurfs in the innovative new material PaperShell. This is a high-tech and completely bio-sourced component. After a first season with about 50 boards being ridden world wide with great acclaims, they are now available in the best shred stores in the world.
Alternative Sports is proud to be the first canadian retailer of Papersurf products. It is a true innovation and a must-try this winter. If it is fun - it’s good !
THE COMPONENT
PaperShell is a new state of the art component manufacturer creating a sustainable material which is set to disrupt the way the world consumes plastics and other harmful materials. All PaperShell projects generate an immediate carbon reduction of between 90-98% compared to existing methods of manufacturing similar products.
Paper sheets are made from cellulose pulp which comes from residual waste from the Swedish paper industry. This material would otherwise go unused and be incinerated to produce heat for example. Several sheets are pressed with many hundreds of tons pressure and heat together with a semi-cellulose binding material which is also a bi-product from the paper industry. The result is a completely homogenous, high-tech composite material with impressive qualities. It has the warmth of plywood and it much stronger. It is significantly lighter than fiberglass (and more environmentally friendly). It’s waterproof, heat resistant and ages beautifully almost like leather. If there is a scratch, you can treat it with a cloth and linseed oil. Don't underestimate paper as a raw material !
THE BOARD
Light and with a material so nice and warm to the touch. Top has a satin matt silk finish. it's smooth to the touch and easy on the eye. With a Papersurf logo embossed in gloss. And hard gloss base for a really good glide. Descreet embossed Papersurf logo. Each board has a slight unique look. Beautiful organic shades of dark brown, black and grey. A feature that is a beautiful characteristic of this material.
The edges has a variety of shapes depending on where they sit on the board. Nose and tail has a smooth rounded shape for nice touch of the hand. Over the wings they are rounded on top and below cut at a 90° angle for a good grip on snow. Shallow progressive fins.
The leash-holder is directly pressed into the Papersurf material. No need for extra metal screws or such, as the leash is neatly tied directly onto the board. To keep it light and true to the material.
The wings acts quite like edges on a snowboard. Allowing controlled turns even in semi-OK snow.
The fins makes it fun to manoeuvre, helps on crappier snow and makes riding up a t-bar quite easy. Also they are fun for gaining speed in end of turns.
Some of the images are without traction pad. Not to worry, the board comes a traction pad of closed cell foam. Which works great for keeping control, but at the same time possible to move around without having to lift your feet and risk losing control. With a slight kick for front and back foot. It does not get full of snow. If there is ice on top, just push it and the ice cracks, as it is slightly soft.
Full length - 148,5 cm

HOW IT RIDES ?
This board works in all kinds of terrain. Deeper snow, more shallow and the really slushy spring snow of a resort. Given its performance across various conditions and its eco-friendly design, this board represents great value for its price point. It strikes a balance between functionality, sustainability, and affordability that's hard to beat.
Moving your feet to experience different ways of turning is half the fun. It’s so cool how much control one can have at high speeds still.
HOW IS THE GLIDE ?
This board performs excellently in most conditions, particularly excelling in powder. Its glide is impressive, and it handles slushy conditions very well. There are some specific scenarios where this base might not be optimal, such as in wet slush (when there's water on top of the snow) or in "hot pow" conditions (powder with a layer of water on top). In these cases, a PTEX board that can be waxed might have a slight edge. However, it's important to note that these conditions are relatively rare. Considering the board's overall performance and its 100% biogenic composition it offers an excellent compromise.
HOW DO WE WAX THE BOARD ?
A non-FLOOR liquid wax on this board in certain snow conditions can provide a bit more speed. However the board can be rided without any wax at all and still performs excellently.
